Ripped away from Earth in the year 2025, Barnes is reluctant to accept his new purpose in life. The Seeders who whisked him away with The Great 1000 are far too mysterious for his liking, and his fellow Adams and Eves continually test his patience. But it isn’t long before Barnes discovers a secret lurking in the depths of Mother, the massive Seeder spaceship. The Great 1000 isn’t really that great, thanks to the actions of renegade tourist Seeders and the missing husband of a stowaway named Anne.

This story really gets you connected with Barnes, the main character, that just wants to live his life on Earth but he is chosen for something "greater". A really clever concept and makes you wonder....hmmm, what if!Product details

The Great 1000 eBook Susan Franceschina Reviews
This Sci-fi story got me intrigued right away and kept me guessing as to what was coming next. Susan Franceschina keeps the reader engaged with a tried and true combination of great characterization, thought-provoking descriptions, and a story with a lot of depth, touching on religious, scientific, and philosophical concepts. I especially liked the way in which the story maintains a sense of mystery surrounding the "Seeders" from beginning to end.
A great sci-fi story that will appeal to anyone who likes mysteries and thought provoking stories. Reminiscent of The Twilight Zone and The Outer Limits, "The Great 1000" combines science fiction, mystery, and philosophy in a tale that spans the universe while telling the story of a man who just wants to go home. Whether you are a fan of sci-fi classics by authors such as Isaac Asimov and Ray Bradbury, or you prefer more recent classics such as the works of Harlan Ellison and George R.R. Martin, you will find this story entertaining and will continue to think about it long after you have finished reading.
The great 1000 is probably one of the most interesting stories I can add to my collection that adds a whole new meaning to the Adam and Eve story, but this story does suffer from some drawbacks.
The reader is met with a wall of dialog at the beginning of the story that could throw the reader of the pace of the story, a little toning would have helped the beginning as the rest of the story followed really well and the reader can really relate to the characters. The story dives into a love and complications around two individuals that try to resist each other and the oval all story concepts are really interesting.
A must read, and an awkward forgiveness to the rocky start. But I recommend this story.
The year is 2025 and The Seeders have come to Earth to gather a 1,000 perfect people to replant the new planet Renetz. However Barnes doesn't want to go. When he is kidnapped and forced against his will to board the Mother spacecraft he meets Mendez, a friend who shares his views, and Anne - who reveals a secret plot which includes the fact the perfect 1,000 aren't perfect afterall.
A vivid read with colorful detail, thought-provoking concepts, and characters the reader can both sympathsize with and root for. This is a great story!
In case you were wondering, Seeders are the ones responsible for human life. They are also responsible for spreading humans to other planets. Wanting to choose the best people possible, the Seeders will take only young men and women who score perfectly on replant quotient (genetic) testing. Barnes is rebellious and doesn't want to test even though he'll face punishment.
When he is forced to test and is subsequently chosen, he finds himself aboard the Mother ship and heading for parts unknown. He doubts his perfection and hates the seeders plan. Refusing to pick a mate, he is gaining a reputation. Then he meets a stowaway who has some ironic news ... Is there any hope for Barnes?
I loved the Great 1000. It had unexpected twists and a enough mystery to keep me turning the pages. Well done! A great futuristic read.
Let me say a few things before I start this review. The first thing I need to say is I hate star ratings. So if the rating doesn't match up to what I say about the story that is why. The second thing is that I love sci-fi and fantasy. I am a multi-generational fan. I also love short stories.
I feel like you need to know these things about me before you read my review.
It's hard to write a good sci-fi short story. Think about it, have you ever tried to describe the whole world in five minutes? I dare you to try. In The Great 1000 the author balances the need for the reader to have enough information for the story to make sense, with the limitation of this being a short story.
The characters caught my interest right away, and I really cared about what would happen to them in the end. They are fine companions to have for the time it takes you to read the story. The things I thought of as errors in logic turned out to be clues to the end twist.
Was there room for improvement? Sure. But there always is. The only real gripe I had were a few things in the very beginning that were a stretch for me, but they were silly things (I figure if an alien race can cure cancer they could cure arthritis and asthma as well) and not important to the story.
I whole heartedly recommend this story and am looking forward to more from this author.
